Troubleshoot Wireless Network

Let¡¦s take a look at some of the problems you may be having with internet connect and look at some of the ways to troubleshoot the wireless network connection.

First let¡¦s look at the bottom right hand task bar and see what type of connection you have right now ¡V none at all or limited to no connectivity. If your signal is weak or has hardly any connectivity then your problem can be that you are connected to the wrong access points. If you have no connection at all then your problem can be that your wireless adapter is not working properly. Check to make sure that the card is securely in place. This is often the problem.

Now if your card is properly inserted into the slot and in the correct slot then we will need to do some further troubleshooting for your wireless network.

Let¡¦s start off by see if the correct if some of the settings are properly typed in. First you will need to check your SSID, and your encryption key. You want to make sure that the router and the adapter have the same security settings, if they do then this is not the problem, so let¡¦s move on.

Now you should have a manual TCP/IP address, but if you don¡¦t then you will need to make sure that the DHCP server is turned on. To do this you will need to connect to the web interface so you can turn it on. After you have enabled this you will need to disable your wireless adapter and then enable it again so that it can renew the DHCP.

Sometimes you are connected to the router but you are still not able to get online and view any web pages, so let¡¦s try to see if you are connected. Go to Start „³ Run and type in cmd, this will bring up a DOS window. What you are going to do is see if you can contact your router, and you will do this by typing in the default gateways IP address, which is usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, if you were able to get a reply then you are connected. So that¡¦s good. You probably will need to manually configure your IP address with the proper DNS servers. This is not as difficult as you may think that it is. You will need to connect to the routers web interface and find the multiple DNS server IP address, and then copy them into the adapters TCP/IP settings. Then restart your computer and that should do it, you should be surfing the net in no time at all.
